About Tom Henry
Tom Henry was a distinguished electrical educator and author, renowned for his extensive contributions to the field of electrical training. Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, in 1938, he embarked on his electrical career as an apprentice in 1956 with the New York Central Railroad. Over the years, he gained diverse experience, including roles as a maintenance electrician, electrical contractor, and industrial electrician, before joining Walt Disney World in 1971. At Disney, he played a pivotal role in assembling the Monorail system and later supervised skilled trades in the Planning Department, overseeing rehabs of attractions in the Magic Kingdom. In 1985, recognizing a gap in electrical education, Tom founded Code Electrical Classes Inc., aiming to provide comprehensive training for electricians. His innovative approach combined practical experience with structured learning, leading to the development of the “Learn to be an Electrician” program, which utilized modules and animated DVDs to teach students from foundational concepts to advanced applications. Throughout his career, Tom authored over 140 books, produced 44 instructional videos, and recorded 19 audio tapes, impacting the education of over 22,000 electricians across 21 states and multiple countries. His legacy continues through his son, Tim Henry, who now leads the organization, and through the enduring impact of his educational materials on the electrical community.
