The 2024 North Carolina State Building Code: Residential Code (NCRC 2024) is a state-specific adaptation of the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC), tailored to meet North Carolina’s unique building practices, climate conditions, and regulatory requirements. Effective from January 1, 2024, this code governs the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, removal, and demolition of detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses not more than three stories above grade plane in height with a separate means of egress, and their accessory structures not more than three stories above grade plane in height.
