This standard covers traditional lightning protection system installation requirements for various types of structures, including:

• Structures containing flammable vapors, gases, or liquids

• Airfield lighting circuits
• Solar arrays

The purpose of NFPA 780 is to establish safety measures that mitigate the risks associated with lightning strikes, ensuring that electricity is safely directed to the ground without causing damage. The standard does not cover installation requirements for early streamer emission systems or charge dissipation systems.
