John Seigenthaler (1927–2014) was a prominent American journalist, author, and advocate for civil rights and the First Amendment. He began his career at The Tennessean in 1949 and later became its editor, publisher, and chairman. He also served as the founding editorial director of USA Today and was a close aide to Robert F.
