2024 Ohio Mechanical Code

The 2024 Ohio Mechanical Code, effective March 1, 2024, is a comprehensive update that governs the design, installation, maintenance, and inspection of mechanical systems in commercial buildings throughout the state. Based on the 2021 International Mechanical Code (IMC), the Ohio version includes state-specific amendments while eliminating unnecessary duplication of model code language. Instead of repeating the entire IMC, the state code now references it and only outlines Ohio’s modifications, making the rules more concise and easier to interpret. The code applies to systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, incineration, and air pollution control, and excludes residential work governed under the separate Residential Code of Ohio. The primary goal of this update is to improve clarity, reduce regulatory burden, and align with modern building standards, ensuring mechanical systems across Ohio are efficient, safe, and code-compliant.
