Changes to the 2019 edition of NFPA 13D, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, include:
- Updated criteria addressing every aspect of sprinkler design, water supplies, equipment, and placement
- Revisions addressing gaps in coverage and clarifying requirements to help make homes safer from fire and related hazards
- Added beam requirements and new figures for sprinklers installed under and adjacent to beams
- New requirements for closets where ventless clothes dryers are installed
- Added requirements where pressure-reducing and pressure-regulating valves are installed
- New section in Chapter 12 addressing inactive systems in structures left vacant for a period of time
- Clarified requirements for the use of well pumps as a water supply
- Added images that clarify sprinkler location and clearances needed around fireplaces
